About
Al Lopez Park is one of Tampa's most beloved and expansive parks, named after the legendary baseball manager who grew up in Tampa. The 132-acre park centers around a large lake that attracts turtles, ducks, herons, and the occasional alligator sighting (from a safe distance). Families can bike or jog the 1.
5-mile paved trail that circles the lake, enjoy the shaded playground, fish from the lake's edge, or rent pedal boats for a leisurely paddle. The park is exceptionally stroller-friendly with wide paved paths throughout, and the open grassy areas are perfect for frisbee, kite flying, or a big family picnic. Weekends bring out joggers, families, and dog walkers, but the park is large enough that it never feels crowded.
Parking is free and plentiful. Al Lopez is one of those parks that works equally well for a quick 45-minute playground stop or a full morning family outing.
