Tokyo with kids is more workable than its scale suggests, because the train system is the most kid-friendly in the world, the subway exits are signed by attraction, and almost every park has bathrooms that work. Shibuya Sky is the observation deck with the best kid-cinematic view of the city; book the timed entry online a week ahead. Meiji Jingu is the morning forest walk that resets everyone before a day of urban density. AKIBA-HOBBY in Akihabara is the souvenir-shop stop for anime-curious tweens; the multi-floor maze is part of the experience. Ueno Park is the family-trip park: the Ueno Zoo, the National Museum of Nature and Science, and the Ueno-Sakuragi-Atari café district within a 15-minute walk. The Ghibli Museum in Mitaka is the impossible-ticket booking; release is 10 a.m. JST on the 10th of every month for the following month, and they sell out in under 5 minutes. Pro tip every Tokyo parent passes to first-timers: 7-Eleven and Lawson are the food saves. They sell genuinely good onigiri, sandwiches, and fruit at 24-hour convenience stores. The IC card (Suica or Pasmo) for kids gets you on every train and is the souvenir kids actually use back home for vending machines.
