Barcelona with kids works better than its reputation suggests, because the city is dense enough that you do not need a car and the food culture is forgiving of small children at almost any hour. The Sagrada Familia is the one ticket worth booking 60 days in advance; tour with the audio guide for kids 6 and up, and they will retain more of the gargoyle and stained-glass details than you expect. CosmoCaixa is the Science Museum every Barcelona parent recommends in the kindergarten group chat for a reason; the flooded forest exhibit is the standout for ages 3 to 10. Parc de la Ciutadella is the city park where you do the picnic, the small zoo, and the rowboat in the lake on the same afternoon. Beach time is the relief valve: Barceloneta is closest, but Bogatell beach two stops east is calmer and the boardwalk has better playgrounds. Spanish dinner timing (after 8 p.m.) is the one cultural shift that wears kids out. The fix is the merienda window between 5 and 7 p.m.; almost every cafe has tortilla and bocadillos and will not blink at a 4 p.m. dinner with kids.
