Maritime Museum of Barcelona

The Maritime Museum of Barcelona gives families a large indoor place to explore ships, seafaring, and the city's old royal shipyards. It works especially well for children who like transportation, pirates, navigation, engineering, or hands-on building. The museum offers family programming and children's activities designed to build curiosity about maritime culture.

Its workshops may cover practical ideas such as why objects float, how boats move, and how to build a toy vessel.

For a self-guided visit, families can move at their own pace through the permanent and temporary exhibitions. The ticket office also has child-focused self-guided materials, although the current versions are only in Catalan. The museum's Patapum material introduces younger children to boats, sailing, the port, sea animals, and the historic Drassanes shipyards.

Scheduled workshops and family events change, so review the family calendar before choosing a date.

Admission is unusually family-friendly. Adults pay €10, while children under 17 enter free. That makes standard admission €20 for two adults and two children.

Everyone may enter free on Sundays after 3:00 p.m., and exhibitions in the Lobby and Espai Mirador are free at other times as well. A reservation is optional for an ordinary self-guided visit, but organized activities and guided experiences may require advance booking.

Most of the visit is indoors, making this one of the better rainy-day choices in Barcelona. The main building is wheelchair-accessible and has an elevator, accessible restrooms, lockers, wheelchairs, and portable stools. However, the galley's forward lookout is not wheelchair-accessible.

The schooner Santa Eulàlia is also not wheelchair-accessible and follows a separate schedule at Moll de la Fusta. It closes on non-holiday Mondays and is unavailable from June 16 through August 31.

Plan on 90 minutes to three hours, depending on your children's attention spans and whether the schooner is open. A café and restaurant are available in the entrance area, but no children's menu is confirmed. Nursing rooms and baby-changing facilities are also not described on the official pages.

Families using a stroller should expect good access through much of the main building but limitations at the ship and certain exhibit viewpoints.
