Police Museum

Tokyo's Police Museum is a free, indoor museum built around the history and everyday work of the Metropolitan Police Department. It is especially strong for children who want to do more than read display labels. Official exhibits include a police-box experience, fingerprint lifting, a simulated 110 emergency call, a cycling-safety simulator, animation, a mini theater, and police-work challenges.

Families can also see a patrol car, motorcycle, helicopter, uniforms, and other equipment. Most major displays have English captions.

The museum's location changed in 2026. It is now on the third floor of the TOC Building at 7-22-17 Nishi-Gotanda in Shinagawa, not at the former Kyobashi address. It is an 8-minute walk from Gotanda Station, 6 minutes from Fudō-mae Station, or 5 minutes from Ōsakihirokōji Station.

Drivers must check the TOC Building's vehicle-size restrictions, and the museum does not provide parking validation. Pickups, drop-offs, and waiting are not allowed at the shuttle stop in front of the main entrance or on nearby streets.

Admission is free, and individual families do not need advance reservations. The museum is open from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM and closes Monday, or the following day when Monday is a national holiday. It also closes December 28 through January 4. Officials warn that admission may be limited when the building is crowded, but no standard wait is published.

One popular feature requires quick action. Children's uniform try-ons use timed numbered tickets distributed at reception. The tickets can run out, and the uniforms come in 100, 120, and 140 cm sizes with possible height restrictions. Arriving near opening gives families the best chance to ask for a slot. Bring your own camera, while following signs because photography is banned in some areas.

Plan about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on how long children spend at the simulations. The museum is a good rainy-day stop, but pack lightly because there are no lockers. Eating and drinking are not allowed anywhere inside. Stroller, nursing, and changing facilities are not clearly addressed on the official pages, so contact the museum if those details will affect your visit.
