Tokyo Tower

Tokyo Tower gives families a clear, exciting goal: rise above the city and see Tokyo spread out below. Standard admission covers the 150-meter Main Deck. The separate Top Deck Tour reaches 250 meters.

On the Main Deck, children can search for landmarks, look through the glass Skywalk Windows, visit the café and shop, and watch the city change as daylight fades. Families wanting more movement can use the outdoor staircase, a climb of about 600 steps that normally takes roughly 12 to 15 minutes. The stairs can close because of rain, poor weather, or heat warnings.

The tower fits a wide age range. Preschoolers often enjoy the elevator ride and glass floor, while school-age children can turn the view into a landmark hunt. Tweens and teens may prefer the stairs, mirrored Top Deck, and evening photography.

Families with babies have unusually useful support for a sightseeing tower: limited stroller rentals, stroller storage, a nursing room on Foot Town's third floor, and diaper-changing tables in several toilets. The nursing room is not on an observation deck, so stop before going up.

Most of the visit is indoors, making this a reasonable rainy-day choice. Rain, clouds, or haze can reduce the view, however, and poor weather can close the Top Deck. A Main Deck visit with time in Foot Town usually needs about 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Add more time for the Top Deck Tour, a meal, shopping, or the outdoor stairs.

Arrival is easier by rail than by car. Akabanebashi Station is about a five-minute walk, with several other subway stations within six to ten minutes. Adjacent parking starts at ¥800 for the first hour and adds ¥400 every 30 minutes.

Main Deck admission is ¥1,500 for adults, ¥1,200 for high-school students, ¥900 for elementary or junior-high children, and ¥600 for children age four and older below school age. Check the official site before travel because hours, deck operations, and outdoor activities can change.
