For most families, I would choose the San Diego Natural History Museum over San Diego Air & Space Museum unless you have a kid who is intensely into planes. The Natural History Museum lands better for ages 5 to 10, runs about 2 to 3 hours, and family of four is roughly $70 to $110 with lunch. Air & Space is excellent for ages 6 and up, especially with simulators, but I think parents sometimes overrate spectacle and underrate the museum where kids actually settle in and pay attention.

What's free to do in San Diego with kids?

Waterfront Park is the cleanest free answer. It gives you a splash pad, playground, stroller-friendly paths, and an easy 1 to 2 hour block downtown without spending anything beyond snacks. Coronado Beach is another strong free family day if you start early enough to beat parking stress. The recurring note from local parents is that San Diego rewards families who mix one paid anchor with one free outdoor stop. That is usually the better rhythm than stacking expensive tickets back to back.

Is San Diego worth it with toddlers?
