Whaley House Museum

Whaley House Museum is a historic-home visit with a strong haunted-history theme. The Greek Revival house served several roles in early San Diego, including a family home, county courthouse, commercial theater, and general store. During the daytime tour, families move at their own pace through exhibit rooms, the interior of the house, and the surrounding grounds.

A brief introduction is offered every 15 minutes, and daytime reservations are not required.

This venue needs careful age screening. The operator rates the day tour PG and says it may not be suitable for children under 13 because some content can be sensitive. Every minor must stay with a parent or adult guardian.

The evening tour is rated PG-13 and is not recommended for children 12 or younger. For that reason, the strongest family fit is teens who enjoy old houses, local history, mysteries, and ghost stories. It is not a good default choice for toddlers or easily frightened younger children.

The daytime museum is open daily from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Tours are first come, first served, so there is no dependable published wait time. Plan about 45 to 75 minutes for a daytime visit, but treat that as a planning estimate because the official duration is simply self-paced. Part of the visit uses outdoor grounds, so rain can make the experience less comfortable.

The historic property has stairs and uneven surfaces. Wheelchair access is limited to the first floor, and there is no elevator. The operator can provide an audiovisual presentation of the second floor for visitors unable to use the stairs.

These same conditions make stroller use limited. Flickering lighting is used to support the haunted atmosphere, and guests with epilepsy or photosensitivity are told to contact the museum before booking.

The detailed ticket page lists day-tour retail prices of $14 for adults and $10 for children ages 4 to 12, with lower online prices of $13.30 and $9.50. A family of two adults and two children would therefore be about $48 at retail or $45.60 online. Confirm the live checkout total. Free parking is available at Old Town State Park, but families should allow time to walk from the parking area.
