Andrew Low House Museum

Andrew Low House Museum is a guided historic-home experience on Lafayette Square, not a hands-on children's museum. The 1849 house preserves architecture, furnishings, silver, porcelain, art, a courtyard, and a formal garden. Its stories include the Low family, the enslaved men and women who lived and worked at the property, and Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts, who later lived in the house.

That mix makes the museum most meaningful for school-age children, tweens, and teens who can listen to a guide and connect objects to real people.

General admission includes the guided house tour plus access to the courtyard and historic garden. Tours begin daily on the hour and half-hour. Individuals and groups smaller than ten do not need a reservation, although advance tickets can make the plan feel more certain.

The standard adult rate is $15, while students ages 6 to 21 pay $13 and children under 6 enter free. A family with two adults and two children ages 6 to 17 would pay $56. The museum also lists discounts and a three-site Savannah museum pass.

Arrival takes a little planning. The public entrance is through the courtyard gates on East Macon or East Charlton Street. Visitors then use brick stairs and the rear door to reach the shop and admission counter.

The museum says the historic house is not ADA compliant and cannot accommodate wheelchair access. It does not publish a stroller policy. Two free museum parking spaces are at East Macon and Abercorn, but otherwise families should expect metered street parking.

The biggest parent warning is the lack of a public restroom. Use nearby facilities before the tour, especially with younger children. Food and drinks are not permitted in the house, although the museum allows brought snacks and drinks in the courtyard before entry.

Children also must avoid touching furnishings and stay away from collection objects. These rules make the house a weak fit for toddlers but a focused 45-60 minute stop for older children. Most of the tour is indoors, so rain is manageable; the courtyard and garden portion will be less useful in bad weather.
