American Prohibition Museum

American Prohibition Museum is a compact indoor history stop in Savannah's City Market. Its strongest family appeal comes from restored Prohibition-era vehicles, more than 200 artifacts, dioramas, murals, videos, and immersive displays. Costumed museum staff add character to the setting.

Children can follow the fight between supporters and opponents of alcohol bans, see how bootleggers worked, and learn how the 18th Amendment changed American life.

The museum allows guests of all ages during regular operating hours, but its subject is a better match for school-age children, tweens, and teens than for toddlers. Much of the story concerns alcohol, politics, organized crime, and changing social rules. Ages 8 and older are more likely to follow the timeline and understand why the artifacts matter.

Younger children may still enjoy the cars, figures, and visual displays, but this is not a play museum. Alcoholic cocktails require valid identification and are limited to visitors age 21 or older.

Most visits take 45 minutes to one hour. The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with final entry at 4:15 p.m. It is closed on Saint Patrick's Day and may close for private events, so recheck the official page. Reservations are neither needed nor accepted for standard admission.

Arrival is the main friction point. The entrance sits inside the City Market courtyard near Ellis Square, and the museum warns that parking can be difficult. Metered spaces and two nearby garages are listed on its FAQ page.

Once inside, the visit is fully sheltered and works well during rain or summer heat. The museum confirms elevator access, but it does not publish a stroller policy or information about nursing and changing facilities. Families needing either should call before visiting.
