Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is the accepted KidPaths name, though the official website now presents the destination as the North American Aerospace Museum, or NORAM. It is in McMinnville, about one hour from Portland, so families should treat it as a day trip rather than a quick city stop. The collection fills two large pavilions with about 150 aircraft, spacecraft and displays.

The scale is the main draw for children. Families can see the Spruce Goose wooden flying boat, an SR-71 Blackbird, an F-117 Nighthawk and a Titan II launch vehicle with its original launch room. The Hercules Pavilion covers more than a century of aviation, while the Titan Pavilion moves into spaceflight, stealth aircraft, jets, drones and helicopters.

Free docent-led tours run twice daily, and admission includes a weekend movie when offered. An extra-cost flight simulator lets eligible riders choose aircraft or a virtual roller coaster. Riders must be at least 48 inches tall; children age 8 or older may ride alone.

The museum is open from 9 a. m. to 5 p.

m. on most days. Plan three to five hours if your family wants both pavilions, a tour and a meal break.

The dedicated admission page lists adults at $24, youth ages 5 to 15 at $14 and children under 5 free. Another part of the official site displays a higher adult rate, so confirm the final amount at checkout. A two-adult, two-youth estimate using the dedicated page is $76 before food or simulator rides.

The buildings, restrooms and café are wheelchair accessible, with elevators in both museums. The official pages do not state a stroller policy or identify nursing and changing spaces. The Aviator Café provides simple sandwiches, PB&J, hot dogs, wraps and salads.

This is a strong rainy-day outing for school-age children, tweens and teens, especially those interested in machines, military history or space. Toddlers may enjoy the huge aircraft but are less likely to engage with every display.
