Louisiana Children's Museum

Louisiana Children's Museum is built around active play, with 56,000 square feet indoors plus outdoor areas in City Park. The strongest fit is ages 1 through 10. Babies under 12 months enter free, and Play With Me gives children age 3 and younger their own sensory area. Older children can spend more time building, testing ideas and following the science behind water, food and the wetlands.

Move With the River is one of the biggest draws. Its 100-foot water table follows the Mississippi River and includes locks, dams, ports, tributaries and drainage systems. A smaller estuary area gives toddlers their own water-play spot.

In Dig Into Nature, children can build a levee or dam at a sediment table, examine specimens under a microscope, care for model animals and explore a pirogue. Follow That Food turns daily life into pretend play with a working grocery-store setup, a child-size Creole kitchen, a produce truck and machines that move coffee beans. Make Your Mark adds art, music, design and building.

A first visit can easily last three hours, and families who pause for lunch may stay closer to four. Most major galleries are indoors, so the museum remains a good rainy-day choice even when the outdoor section is uncomfortable. Water exhibits make spare clothes useful.

The current published summer schedule runs Tuesday through Sunday, with a later 11:30 a.m. opening on Sunday. The museum strongly recommends timed-entry tickets, especially on weekends and holidays. General admission is $22.95 plus tax for each adult or child age 12 months and older. Four paid admissions total $91.80 plus tax.

Family logistics are well covered. Parking in the museum's two lots and throughout City Park is free. Stroller parking is available around the museum, free lockers are on Level One and interactive spaces are designed for wheelchair access.

A MamaVa pod near the front desk provides privacy for breastfeeding or pumping, though the official pages do not confirm diaper-changing facilities. Acorn Café serves meals and children's choices. Sensory bags, weighted lap pads and a quiet area are also available.
