Rows of full-size aircraft make the National Naval Aviation Museum easy to enjoy even with children who aren't ready to read long exhibit panels. The collection covers more than 150 restored Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard aircraft, plus over 4,000 artifacts. Children can look inside unusual planes, climb into designated cockpit trainers, move control sticks and flip switches.

Downloadable scavenger hunts add a mission to the visit, with easier and more challenging versions available.

General admission and parking are free. Families can spend several hours with the aircraft and exhibits without buying anything. Paid choices include the giant-screen theater and flight simulators.
