Paul Revere House

The Paul Revere House is a compact historic-site visit in Boston's North End, directly on the Freedom Trail. Families move through the colonial home at their own pace using illustrated information and help from museum interpreters. Inside, children can examine heavy wooden beams, large fireplaces, a kitchen with old cooking tools, and upstairs rooms furnished with pieces from Paul Revere's era.

Because the house is small and the visit has a clear story, it can work well for children who might tire during a larger history museum.

Most families should plan 30 to 60 minutes. School and organized group tours are described as lasting about 30 to 45 minutes. Children who already know about the American Revolution or Paul Revere's ride will get the most from the rooms, but the physical details of old-house life can also engage younger visitors.

The museum explicitly welcomes young children. Family restrooms in the Visitor Center have changing tables, though no nursing room is identified.

Strollers cannot enter the exhibit spaces. Families may leave them in the courtyard, so a baby carrier is useful if a young child cannot walk through the house. Food, drinks, and gum are limited to the outdoor courtyard, and the site has no picnic area. Photography is also restricted to the courtyard. These rules are worth explaining before children enter.

Current admission is $6 for adults and $1 for children ages 5 to 17. Two adults and two ticketed children would cost $14. The site accepts cash and cards, but cards have a $10 minimum. Groups of fewer than 10 do not need advance reservations and buy tickets at the admissions booth. Small rooms and seasonal crowds can still produce a wait.

The house is open daily from April 15 through October 31, from 10:00 AM to 5:15 PM. Winter hours are 10:00 AM to 4:15 PM, with Monday closures during January, February, and March plus several holidays. The separately listed Pierce/Hichborn House is closed until further notice. Public transit or walking is easier than driving because North End streets are narrow and nearby parking is limited.
