Thinkery

Thinkery is a 40,000-square-foot children's museum built around hands-on STEAM play. Children can mix colors and freeze shadows in Light Lab, work with water in Currents, build in Spark Shop and spend time outside in Our Backyard. The activities reward touching, moving, testing and trying again.

This makes the museum a strong fit for toddlers through elementary-age children, with enough open-ended building and science work to interest many younger tweens.

Families with babies have a separate option. Baby Bloomers opens parts of the museum to children ages 0 to 3 and their caregivers from 8:00-10:00 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. The program uses the second floor and backyard for story times, parachute play and free play.

Standard Baby Bloomers admission is currently $9 per person, while general admission costs $19. 95 for each visitor age 1 and older. Four general-admission tickets total $79.

80. Reduced admission is available onsite for qualifying Texas benefit-card holders, educators and military families, while eligible ACM and ASTC members may receive reciprocal discounts.

Most visitors spend 1. 5-2 hours, according to Thinkery. The building is fully wheelchair accessible, with elevators serving both floors.

The museum can be loud, but Admissions has a limited first-come supply of sound-reducing headphones, sensory backpacks and wheelchairs. Strollers are less convenient: Thinkery encourages families to leave them in the car and provides unattended stroller parking outside.

Arrival requires one extra step. Thinkery validates up to three hours of parking in designated Mueller garages during general-admission hours, but families must follow the current validation instructions. Check the museum's page before driving because special programs may not qualify.

Outside food and drinks are welcome in the Snack Area, not in galleries. The museum has substantial indoor space for hot or rainy days, though Our Backyard and some water play may be weather dependent. Current hours, tickets and special-program schedules should be checked before leaving home.
