Delta Flight Museum

Delta Flight Museum is a strong choice for children who become excited when a plane passes overhead. The museum occupies two historic, air-conditioned aircraft hangars on Delta's headquarters campus near Atlanta's airport. Inside, families follow Delta and commercial aviation history through full-size aircraft, engines, uniforms, display cases, and hands-on features.

Children can explore the Aviation Adventure area and climb inside a small M-2 propeller aircraft model made for young visitors.

The biggest draw is access to real aircraft. During normal operations, visitors can enter the Boeing 767 known as The Spirit of Delta and the first Boeing 747-400 ever built. Children can sit in passenger areas, look toward preserved cockpits, and stand close to enormous tires and engines.

The 747 Experience sits across the parking area from the hangars, so part of the visit involves going outdoors. Its Wing Walk closes during bad weather, but the main hangars remain a useful rainy-day outing. Check the official calendar carefully because private events can close individual areas or the entire museum.

Plan for more arrival friction than at a typical museum. The property is inside Delta's corporate campus. Guests register at a Visitor Center kiosk, receive a temporary badge, and pass through a security gate.

Adults need valid photo identification, and bags are inspected in the admissions lobby. Parking is free, but the museum asks visitors to allow additional check-in time. Last admission is sold 30 minutes before closing, and final entry is 15 minutes before closing.

A two-and-a-half to three-and-a-half-hour visit gives most families enough time for both hangars and the 747 without rushing. Preschoolers may focus on the aircraft and interactive area, while older children can absorb more of the airline history. Tuesday's one-hour public tour is included with admission but is mainly recommended for ages 10 and older.

There is no cafe or vending machine, and only water may enter the exhibits. Families may leave for lunch and return that day with their receipt. A Mother's Room is available on request, but changing-table details and stroller rules are not published.
