About
Atlanta History Center is a large family campus, not a museum that can be covered room by room in one quick loop. The Buckhead property has 33 acres of indoor exhibitions, historic houses, gardens, wooded paths and family stops. Its strongest feature for younger children is the 5,000-square-foot Goizueta Children's Experience.
The 2026 Atlanta Sports theme uses Atlanta teams, dress-up play, games and storytelling to introduce teamwork, local identity and sports history. The gallery is included with general admission.
Children can burn energy in the play gallery, then change pace outdoors. The family scavenger hunt points toward locations such as the Texas locomotive, Smith Farm animals, playhouses, a tiny door and places to look for wildlife. Older children and teens may spend more time with the Cyclorama, railroad history, Atlanta's 1996 Olympic and Paralympic story or the historic houses.
The houses open at 11:00 a. m. , two hours after the main campus, so an early family can begin indoors and move outside later.
A useful visit takes three to five hours. Families trying to see several exhibitions, both houses and the gardens can stay most of the day. Rain does not cancel the indoor value, but wet weather reduces what you can comfortably see across the grounds.
Strollers are useful for the large campus, though some paths are gravel or unpaved and parts of the historic houses are not accessible. The children's-gallery rules require unused strollers to be parked in a designated area. Changing stations are provided in all restrooms.
Admission changes by day. Posted rates are $31 per adult and $27 per youth age 4 to 12 on weekdays, rising to $35 and $31 on weekends. Ages 0 to 3 are free.
