About

iFLY VA Beach is an indoor skydiving facility on Pacific Avenue, just one block from the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Using a vertical wind tunnel that generates air speeds up to 175 mph, the experience simulates freefall skydiving without an airplane, a parachute, or any of the associated fear. Flyers float on a cushion of air inside a glass-walled flight chamber while a trained instructor holds onto them the entire time.

It's one of the most memorable activities a family can do in Virginia Beach, and kids talk about it long after the trip is over.

Each flight session includes a training class, gear fitting (flight suit, helmet, goggles, earplugs), and two one-minute flights in the wind tunnel. One minute of flight time doesn't sound like much, but it's physically intense and longer than you'd think when you're floating in midair. The instructors are skilled at adjusting the wind speed for each flyer's size and comfort level, and they can do controlled spins and lifts for participants who want more thrill.

Kids as young as 3 can fly, making iFLY one of the few high-adrenaline activities in Virginia Beach accessible to very young children.

The facility is modern, clean, and well-run. The flight chamber is glass-walled so non-flying family members can watch and take photos from the observation area. Walk-ins are sometimes available, but booking online in advance is strongly recommended, especially during summer.

The location on Pacific Avenue puts it within easy walking distance of the boardwalk, making it convenient to combine with a beach day. For families with kids who love physical thrills — or for parents looking for an activity that's genuinely unique — iFLY delivers an experience you can't get anywhere else at the beach.

Best Time to Visit

Weekday mornings for the shortest waits and most available time slots. Summer weekends book out days in advance.

Why Kids Love It

Floating in midair inside a wind tunnel is the closest thing to a real superpower — kids feel like they're actually flying, and their faces light up the second the wind lifts them off the ground. The fact that kids as young as 3 can do it means even little siblings get to join in on the thrill.

Pro Tips from Parents

  • Book online at least a week in advance during summer — time slots fill up, especially on weekends.
  • Wear comfortable, close-fitting clothes. Loose shirts and hoodies can flap wildly in the wind tunnel.
  • Tie long hair back securely before arriving. The wind is powerful and loose hair gets in the way.
  • Add the video/photo package when booking — the in-tunnel footage is worth it, and phone cameras can't capture the same angle through the glass.

What to Bring

  • Lace-up sneakers (required — no sandals, boots, or slip-ons)
  • Comfortable, form-fitting clothing (all gear including flight suit is provided)
  • Hair tie for long hair
  • ID for check-in (adults)
