About

The Dennis & Judith Jones Variety Wonderland Playground in Forest Park is one of the best free playgrounds in St. Louis. It's a fully inclusive play space where every structure was designed so kids of all abilities can participate. But inclusive doesn't mean boring. This playground is genuinely fun for all kids.

The main play area has large climbing structures with multiple levels, slides, bridges, and tunnels. Complex enough for 6-9 year olds. There's a separate toddler area with smaller slides, softer surfaces, and sensory play elements like musical instruments.

The surface is poured rubber, great for falls but can get hot in summer. Closed-toe shoes non-negotiable in July and August. Some tree shade around the perimeter, but main structures sit in direct sun during midday.

Completely free, and parking in Forest Park is free too. The biggest perk is everything else in Forest Park — you're within walking distance of the St. Louis Zoo (free), Art Museum (free), Science Center (free), and Art Hill.

Restrooms available at a nearby park facility. No food at the playground, so pack snacks or a full picnic.

The playground is open 6am-10pm. Weekday mornings are the sweet spot — equipment practically to yourself. By 10am on weekends, it's buzzing.

If you're visiting St. Louis with kids under 10, this playground deserves a spot on your itinerary. Free, well-designed, and in one of the best urban parks in the country.
