Golden Gardens Park

Golden Gardens Park gives families several outings in one place. Children can play in the designated play area, explore the sandy Puget Sound shoreline, walk a short loop near two wetlands, follow forest trails, or watch people fishing from the pier. Picnic sites, grills, restrooms, drinking fountains, volleyball courts, and wide views toward the Olympic Mountains make it easy to stay for several hours.

This is a useful choice when siblings want different kinds of outdoor play.

The park is spread out rather than built around one compact playground. A family might begin at the play area, move to the beach for sand play and shoreline watching, then finish with a picnic or short trail walk. Toddlers need close supervision near the water, fishing pier, fire pits, and trails.

The official park page does not publish current lifeguard coverage, so parents should not assume that swimming is supervised. Dogs are not permitted on the beach or in children's play areas, although a separate off-leash area sits in the upper northern part of the park.

Golden Gardens is free, but arrival timing matters. From May through September, posted park hours are 4:00 AM-10:30 PM. The parking lot gates do not open until 7:00 AM, and non-vehicle grounds access begins at 4:30 AM.

Street parking along Seaview Avenue NW is the option listed for drivers arriving before the gate opens. The city does not publish a parking wait estimate, so a dry weekday morning is the simplest choice for families who want fewer arrival complications.

Strollers work best around developed areas but become less useful on beach sand and rugged forest paths. Bring layers because the shoreline can feel cooler and windier than inland Seattle. Restrooms and drinking fountains are listed amenities, but nursing and changing facilities are not described.

During the 2026 fire season, installed beach pits are available first come from May 22 through September 7 unless a burn ban applies. Fires must be out by 10:00 PM, and families must use water rather than sand. In steady rain, the park has little shelter and is not a strong rainy-day destination.
