Rodin Museum

Philadelphia's Rodin Museum is a compact art museum that combines indoor galleries with a formal outdoor sculpture garden. It holds one of the largest public collections of Auguste Rodin's work outside Paris. Recognizable pieces include The Thinker and The Gates of Hell, while many smaller works focus on hands, faces, movement, emotion, and the human body.

That focus can help children look closely without needing a long art-history lesson.

The museum is best for school-age children, tweens, and teens, but its family policies also make a short visit possible with babies and toddlers. Young children are welcome, nursing is permitted anywhere in the museum, and a baby changing station is available. Strollers are allowed in most areas, although safety rules exclude them from some galleries.

A front-worn carrier is the better backup because carriers worn on the back can place artwork at risk.

Plan about 1 to 1. 5 hours for the building and garden. Children can choose a sculpture to copy in a sketchbook, compare different views of the same figure, or look for hands and faces showing different emotions.

Only graphite pencils may be used for sketching. Families must remain together, avoid touching the art, and keep roughly an arm's length from objects. Personal photography is allowed in the permanent collection without flash, tripods, or selfie sticks.

The museum currently publishes a limited weekly schedule: it is open Monday and Friday through Sunday and closed Tuesday through Thursday. Its detailed hours section lists 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on open days, but a live status element may show different Friday information. Confirm the current status before traveling.

Suggested admission is $15 per adult. Children 12 and younger and youths ages 13 to 18 enter free, making the suggested total $30 for two adults and two children. Limited metered parking is available on nearby streets. The Philadelphia Museum of Art garage is another option but requires a walk from the main building area.
