Queens County Farm Museum

Queens County Farm Museum gives families a farm outing without leaving New York City. The 47-acre site has been farmed for more than three centuries and remains an active place for growing food, caring for livestock, and teaching agriculture. On a self-guided visit, children can walk past fields and gardens and look for hens, steer, alpacas, sheep, goats, and pigs in their coops and paddocks.

The Welcome Center provides a map showing where animals are located and what is happening that day.

Toddlers and early elementary children are the clearest fit because the animals offer an easy focus without long reading. Bags of approved feed are sold in limited daily amounts for sheep and goats. Families must not bring other animal food, enter fenced areas, pick produce, or walk into growing fields.

A tractor-pulled hayride gives children a different view of pastures, wooded areas, and crops. Tickets currently cost $6 per person. Hayrides are weather permitting and run hourly from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekends.

General admission is free to individuals and families on 354 days of the year, but major events have their own tickets. Check the calendar before promising a free visit. The normal grounds and Farm Store hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, with several holiday closures and shorter Christmas Eve hours.

Free street parking is available along Little Neck Parkway. The onsite parking lot generally opens for special events rather than everyday visits.

This is mainly an outdoor experience, so heat, rain, mud, and cold can change how long young children last. The farm says its grounds and restrooms are accessible and permits strollers, backpacks, and bottled water, although it offers no stroller storage. Families can bring a picnic.

The Farm Store sells snacks and drinks, but there is no café. Allow around two hours for animals and gardens, or closer to three hours with a hayride and picnic. Nursing and baby-changing facilities are not described on the official site.
