Global Wildlife Center

Global Wildlife Center is a drive-to safari experience in Folsom, Louisiana, rather than a walk-through city zoo. Families board a canopy-covered wagon for a guided 75-minute trip across roughly 900 acres. The preserve is home to more than 2,000 free-roaming animals, including giraffes, bison, zebras, camels, and elands.

Children may touch and feed animals that choose to approach the wagon while a guide explains the different species.

The close animal contact is the main attraction, but parents should set realistic expectations. The animals move freely, so a giraffe visit is never guaranteed. In cold or adverse weather, giraffes stay in a heated barn.

Optional approved feed costs extra, starting with a 32-ounce souvenir cup. Families with allergies should read the detailed feed ingredient list before purchasing because it includes ingredients such as soybean products and wheat.

The tour fits infants through teens, but ages three through twelve are likely to get the most from the feeding and guide commentary. Children age one and under ride free. The listed base total for two adults and two children ages 2 to 11 is $72 before feed or possible booking charges. A regular wagon is much less expensive than a private Pinzgauer tour.

Plan for about one hour and 45 minutes from check-in through the tour's end. The website's listed time is the check-in time, and wagons usually depart about 30 minutes later. If a family arrives at departure time, staff may move them to the next available tour. Pre-booking is strongly encouraged because walk-in seats are not guaranteed.

This is an outdoor, weather-dependent outing. Tours can return early during unsafe weather, and lightning within ten miles causes cancellation. Once a tour begins, the rain policy says there are no refunds or rain checks.

The wagon is ADA accessible, but stroller storage, nursing facilities, changing areas, and regular meal service were not verified. The center is in a remote area, so driving is easiest. A rideshare can drop visitors off, but the center warns that a return pickup is not guaranteed.
