Greenfield Park

Greenfield Park in West Allis is one of Milwaukee County's premier family parks — a sprawling green space centered on a picturesque lagoon that gives it a character most urban parks can't match. The lagoon is the centerpiece. In summer, paddleboats are available for rental, and the calm water is one of the best spots in the county to introduce kids to fishing. Stock your cooler with bait from a nearby shop, bring a beginner rod, and you'll have a legitimately memorable morning for kids 4-12 who've never sat with a line in the water.

The park also has a beach area for summer swimming, though it's more of a splash area than a full swimming beach.

Beyond the water, the park is enormous — picnic shelters scattered throughout the grounds, open athletic fields, paths for walking and biking, a golf course (fees apply), and multiple playground areas. This scale means a family can spend a full half-day without repeating the same activity twice.

For the Milwaukee area's best picnic park experience, Greenfield is the benchmark. Shelters can be reserved through Milwaukee County Parks for larger family gatherings. The open areas around the lagoon are first-come, first-served and rarely feel overcrowded except on peak summer holiday weekends.
