Museum of Miami

Museum of Miami is an indoor regional-history museum in the Miami-Dade Cultural Center downtown. Formerly called HistoryMiami Museum, it adopted its current name on May 7, 2026. Its core exhibition, Tropical Dreams: A People's History of South Florida, covers more than 10,000 years of local history.

Families move through two buildings filled with artifacts, photographs, community stories, and changing exhibitions rather than a traditional children's play center.

The strongest fit is for grade-school children, tweens, and teens who can connect objects to stories about the people and places of South Florida. Younger children may do best with a shorter route focused on the largest objects and most visual galleries. Family Fun Days take place on the second Saturday of each month and can add art-making, music, storytelling, and mini-tours.

The museum is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5:00 PM. Entry stops at 4:30 PM, so arriving at opening allows a comfortable one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half-hour visit. The museum warns visitors to plan for entrance lines and recommends online tickets for faster checkout.

Standard strollers and front-facing carriers are welcome, but some exhibitions restrict strollers. Jogging strollers and wagons are not allowed.

For two adults and two children ages 6 to 12, current general admission totals $46. Children under six enter free. Validated parking at the Miami-Dade Cultural Center Garage is normally a flat $5, bringing that example to about $51, but validation may disappear during special events or short-run exhibitions.

The garage route uses a south elevator and covered footbridge. A street-level Government Center elevator is temporarily out of service, so follow the museum's current accessibility directions.

The museum is a good rainy-day option and has strong accessibility support. Wheelchairs, portable gallery stools, sensory backpacks, noise-reducing headphones, maps, and large-print materials are available, often first come. Food is not allowed, and the museum does not advertise children's meals.
