About

The Dallas Museum of Art offers a flexible, low-cost museum day in the Dallas Arts District. General admission is free, but every visitor needs a ticket, including babies and young children. Families can reserve tickets online or get them at Guest Services. Paid special exhibitions may require a second reservation. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Children spend most of the visit looking, talking, and sketching rather than touching. The collection includes more than 25,000 works, so trying to cover everything can tire a family quickly. Choose two or three gallery areas, let children search for animals, colors, faces, or unusual materials, and take a break before attention fades.

Pencils and small sketchbooks are allowed, but other art tools are not permitted in the galleries. Children under 12 must stay with an adult, and no one may touch the art.

The Tower Gallery on Level 4 is the most useful confirmed family facility. It is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m. and may be used for snacks and bottle feeding. Food, drinks, baby bottles, and snack cups are not allowed in the art galleries.

A dedicated nursing room and baby-changing station were not confirmed. The Center for Creative Connections, or C3, is scheduled to reopen on September 19, 2026 with an interactive exhibition, refreshed Arturo's Nest, and improved studio spaces. Check the live status if this space is important to your visit.

Plan about 1.5 to 3 hours. The museum is mainly indoors and works well in rain or summer heat, though outdoor plazas, courtyards, and sculpture areas can extend the trip in good weather. The underground garage is accessed from St.

Paul Street and is listed at $20 per car. General admission for a family of four remains $0, before parking, meals, or special exhibitions. Backpacks and larger bags should go to the complimentary coat check, and bags may not be worn on the back in gallery spaces.
