About
Go Ape Williamsburg is an outdoor climbing and zipline park inside Freedom Park. It works best for families seeking a scheduled physical challenge rather than an open-ended park visit. The main choices are Treetop Journey, Treetop Adventure, and Forest EscAPE. Axe throwing is also offered, but most families with children will focus on the first three.
Treetop Journey is the easier introduction. It has suspended bridges, obstacles, and ziplines on a one-hour course. There is no stated minimum age, but every participant must be at least 3 feet 3 inches tall. Children age 5 and younger need one participating adult for every two children. Ages 6 to 15 require adult supervision from the course or the ground.
Treetop Adventure is longer, higher, and more demanding. The Williamsburg course reaches platforms up to 42 feet and has ziplines up to 600 feet. Participants must be at least 10 years old and 4 feet 7 inches tall.
One participating adult can supervise no more than two youths ages 10 to 15. The usual course time is two to three hours. Forest EscAPE is a private, ground-based puzzle game lasting about 60 minutes.
It has no minimum age, although Go Ape recommends it for age 5 or older and says some puzzles are best for children around 7 and up.
Reserve a session before making the drive. Go Ape advises arriving 10-15 minutes early, with extra time on weekends and holidays. Late arrivals can miss their activity and still be charged. Every participant needs a waiver. Fully enclosed shoes and gloves are required for the treetop courses, and the site is cash-free.
The courses usually operate in rain, but staff monitor lightning, high winds, snow, ice, and other unsafe conditions. This makes light rain manageable, not a guarantee that every storm-day session will run. Parents should also consider fear of heights, climbing stamina, and supervision ratios before choosing a course.
Younger siblings who cannot participate will need a separate adult plan on the ground.
