For families visiting Sedona, this is a don't-miss destination that combines spectacular scenery with an accessible outdoor experience suitable for most ages.

The centerpiece for families is Oak Creek itself. The creek runs through the picnic area with sections shallow enough for toddlers to wade safely, and broader pools where older kids can splash and explore. The flat red sandstone slabs that line the banks are naturally wonderful for picnicking, sunbathing, and that classic Sedona pastime of sitting with your feet in cool water while staring up at geology that seems impossible.

The surrounding area is lush by Sedona standards — cottonwood trees and willows create a green canopy that provides welcome shade in summer.
