About

OdySea Aquarium is a strong Scottsdale choice when the family needs several hours indoors. The official route follows a drop of water from rivers and lakes to the shore and deep ocean. Along the way, children see penguins, river otters, sharks, sea turtles, jellyfish, coral and a giant Pacific octopus.

The aquarium reports about 6,000 animals. Its biggest change of pace is OdySea Voyager, a rotating theater that carries seated guests past sea turtles, sea lions and sharks. Touch pools let children interact with stingrays, sea urchins and anemones, while Penguin Point adds games and movement activities for younger visitors.

Most families should allow two to three hours, which matches the aquarium's own guidance. Toddlers and preschoolers get short, visual stops and hands-on areas. Elementary-age children can follow scheduled animal talks and read more of the exhibit material. Tweens and teens who like marine biology still have plenty to see, although paid encounters are separate from basic admission.

This is an indoor, stroller-friendly outing and a dependable option during desert heat or rain. Single and double strollers and wagons are permitted. A family restroom and nursing or quiet room appear on the official visitor map. The route is accessible by elevator, and families may backtrack before reaching the exit.

Cost is the main tradeoff. Posted admission is $49.95 for ages 13 and older and $39.95 for ages 2 to 12. That makes a standard family of four $179.80 before taxes, food or add-ons. Parking at Arizona Boardwalk is free but limited. Arrive with enough time to park and walk to the entrance. The last entry is 60 minutes before closing.

Plan food before scanning in. Outside food is not permitted except formula and snacks needed for food allergies. Starbucks is located halfway through the route. Pangaea Grill, Johnny Rockets and other Boardwalk restaurants are outside, and aquarium tickets do not allow re-entry. Check the live official schedule before leaving home because Sunday hours, talks and encounter times can change.

Plan Your Visit

Best Time to Visit

Arrive near the 9:00 AM opening on a weekday for the most time to catch scheduled talks and explore before afternoon arrivals.

Wait Times

No standard entry wait is published. Buy tickets ahead, allow extra time for limited parking and arrive more than 60 minutes before closing.

Nearby Food

Starbucks is inside the aquarium. Outside at Arizona Boardwalk, official options include Pangaea Grill, Johnny Rockets, Frozen Penguin and Sugar Drop. Leaving the aquarium ends the visit because re-entry is not allowed.

Why Kids Love It

Children can touch stingrays and other shoreline animals, watch penguins and otters, walk through an underwater tunnel and ride through shark, sea turtle and sea lion views in the rotating OdySea Voyager theater.

Pro Tips from Parents

  • Check the daily program schedule before entering and build the route around the animal talks your children care about most.
  • Use the family restroom or nursing and quiet room before leaving. Tickets do not allow re-entry.
  • Bring your own stroller or wagon. Rentals are first come, first served and require a refundable $50 usage fee.
  • Plan meals carefully. Outside food is restricted, Starbucks is halfway through the aquarium and the larger Arizona Boardwalk restaurants are outside the no-re-entry gate.

What to Bring

  • Mobile or printed ticket confirmation
  • Personal water bottles
  • Compact stroller or wagon for younger children
  • Light layer for indoor climate control
