Balneario El Escambron

Balneario El Escambron is widely considered the best family beach in metro San Juan. Natural rock formations create a sheltered cove with calm, clear, shallow water, which is exactly what parents want when younger swimmers are involved.

The beach sits between Old San Juan and Condado, so it is easy to reach from many hotels and sightseeing routes. Lifeguards are on duty, basic restrooms are available, and parking usually costs about $5 to $10. The lot fills fast on weekends, so arrive early if you are driving.

Bring snorkeling gear if your kids are interested in seeing tropical fish and sea urchins in the clear water. Water shoes are helpful for rocky spots. Bring everything you need for the visit, including snacks, water, towels, sunscreen, and shade if you have it, because vendors are limited.
