Jaycee Park has been on Wade Avenue since 1961, and its 14. 9 acres pack in more than most Raleigh parks twice its size. The community center anchors it, but the outdoor amenities are what keep families coming back: two playgrounds, six lighted sand volleyball courts, two lighted tennis courts, two softball fields at 260 and 248 feet, a youth baseball field at 191 feet, a picnic shelter, a daylily garden with labeled plantings and a fenced dog run with benches and waste stations.
Start with the playgrounds, because they solve the sibling problem. One is built for ages 2 to 5, the other for 5 to 12, and Raleigh Parks lists rubberized and sand surfaces, so a toddler is not trying to climb equipment sized for a fourth grader. The six sand volleyball courts deserve a mention too, and not only for volleyball.
To a four-year-old, that much sand is simply the largest sandbox they have ever seen, while tweens can get a real game going under lights.
