About
Kbely Aviation Museum gives airplane-loving families a large collection without an admission charge. It occupies part of Prague’s historic Kbely military airfield, the country’s first air base after Czechoslovakia was founded. The Military History Institute says its collection holds 275 aircraft.
Nearly 100 are displayed in covered halls and another 25 are shown outside. The route focuses on Czech and Czechoslovak aviation, especially military flight, but it also includes selected international aircraft, engines, airframe parts, equipment, weapons, uniforms, flags, and medals.
The full-size machines give younger children something easy to look at even when they cannot follow every label. Older children can compare aircraft in chronological order and see how cockpit instruments, engines, and airframes changed through the twentieth century. Because this is a military collection, caregivers should expect weapons and wartime subjects as well as aviation technology.
Children under 15 must enter with an adult.
The museum is a good fit for a mixed-weather day because many aircraft are inside hangars, but it is not fully protected from rain. Some exhibits are outdoors, and the separate Stará Aerovka hangars are about 900 meters from the main grounds, with an entrance from Hůlkova Street. Strollers are permitted, and the official page says the exhibitions are barrier-free.
Nursing or changing facilities were not documented.
Plan about two to four hours as a family estimate. A toddler may be satisfied with the main hangars, while an aviation-focused older child may want the outdoor aircraft and Stará Aerovka as well. Admission is free, and there is no ticket line estimate. The final entry is at 5:30 PM.
Seasonality is the biggest planning issue. In the current 2026 season, the museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM through September. It opens on weekends in October, but the official page does not state exact October hours.
Regular winter visiting is not offered. Public transportation is encouraged; the Letecké muzeum bus stop is only a short walk from the gate but is a request stop.

Pro Tips from Parents
- Treat this as a seasonal museum. It is open Tuesday-Sunday through September, weekends only in October, and closed to regular visitors in winter.
- The Stará Aerovka hangars have a separate entrance about 900 meters from the main site. Build the walk into the schedule and bring weather protection.
- Children under 15 must stay with an adult. Discuss a meeting point before entering the large hangars and outdoor display areas.
- The public transportation stop named Letecké muzeum is a request stop. Signal the driver and watch for the stop.
