About

Orange County Regional History Center is a practical indoor break from Orlando's heat and afternoon storms. The museum fills four floors of the historic Orange County courthouse in downtown Orlando. Its core exhibitions cover about 14,000 years across Central Florida, from early Indigenous communities and Seminole history to cattle ranching, citrus, civil rights, astronauts, entertainment and Walt Disney.

Families can choose a few topics that match their children's interests instead of trying to read every panel.

The strongest age range is roughly 5-14. Primary-school children can connect with animals, space, theme parks and unusual objects, while tweens and teens can handle the deeper civic and cultural stories. This is not a children's play museum, so toddlers may tire before older siblings.

Family programs and sensory-friendly events add hands-on activities on selected dates. The museum provides elevators on every floor, social narratives in English and Spanish and sensory-friendly programs that may include lower sound, softer lighting, earmuffs, tools and a quiet space.

General admission is modest for downtown Orlando. Adults pay $10, and children ages 5 to 12 pay $6. Ages 4 and younger enter free.

A family with two adults and two children ages 5 to 12 would pay $32 before special-event tickets. SNAP recipients can use Museums for All for free admission for up to four people, and Orange County Library cardholders receive $2 off regular admission. The building is cashless.

Plan two to three hours and bring a light layer because the museum says galleries are usually cool. Renovations and improvements are underway, so call before arrival if a particular exhibit matters. Parking is in the Library Garage at 112 East Central Boulevard, across from the public library.

Paid museum admission includes validation for two hours of free garage parking, limited to one validation per visiting party. There is no full café listed, though the lobby shop sells treats. Eat before the visit or plan a downtown meal afterward.

Plan Your Visit

Best Time to Visit

Arrive at 10:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday for the longest visit window. Sunday starts at noon. Call ahead if a specific exhibition matters because renovation work may close sections

Wait Times

The museum does not publish a normal queue time. Add time for downtown garage parking, walking across Central Boulevard and ticketing at the cashless entrance

Nearby Food

The first-floor Emporium shop sells treats, but the official visit pages do not list a café or full meal service. Plan to eat elsewhere in downtown Orlando and confirm re-entry rules before leaving the museum

Why Kids Love It

Four floors connect Florida stories children may already know, including Indigenous cultures, ranching, citrus, astronauts and theme parks. Historic objects, changing displays and the old courthouse setting give families many short topics to choose from
