Woodbridge Aquarium & Wildlife sits inside the Woodbridge Center mall in central New Jersey, about 30 minutes south of Manhattan, and it punches well above its weight for a mall-based attraction.

The aquarium's selling point is hands-on access. Touch tanks let kids reach in and handle horseshoe crabs, starfish, and stingrays under staff supervision, a level of direct contact that most large city aquariums actively discourage. For a 4-year-old, touching a live stingray is a moment that lives in memory far longer than reading a placard about one.

The facility also houses reptiles, birds, and small mammals alongside the aquatic exhibits, which gives it more variety than a pure fish-and-shark aquarium. Live feeding demonstrations happen throughout the day, check the schedule when you arrive, because watching a shark get fed is the kind of thing kids talk about for weeks.
