Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage is a large historic site rather than a quick house tour. General admission includes the Andrew Jackson Center, its film and museum exhibits, a 25 to 30-minute guided mansion tour, an audio tour and access to the gardens, tomb, historic buildings, trails and places connected to the enslaved community. Families can choose a compact two-hour route or spend much longer across the 1,120-acre property.

The visit fits ages 8 to 15 best. Older elementary children can follow the mansion story and use the audio tour, while tweens and teens are ready for harder questions about Andrew Jackson’s presidency, Indigenous removal, slavery and the lives of people who worked on the plantation. Children ages 5 to 7 can still enjoy the mansion, garden and artifacts, but the amount of listening and walking may test their patience.

Admission is sold in 30-minute arrival blocks. Buying online reserves a starting window, but mansion tours are conducted in the order guests reach the mansion entrance. If a preferred block is full, the next option may begin 30 minutes later. Free parking removes one cost, though public transportation stops are not convenient to the site.
