Barbie Expo

The Barbie Expo in downtown Montreal is one of the largest permanent Barbie exhibitions in the world, and the best part is that it's completely free. Located on the third floor of Les Cours Mont-Royal on Rue Peel, the exhibit features over 1,000 Barbie dolls displayed in elaborate themed settings.

The collection goes way beyond the standard Barbie aisle at a toy store. You'll find dolls dressed as historical figures, celebrities, characters from film and fashion, and cultural icons from around the world. Each display is carefully staged with miniature sets, lighting, and accessories. The attention to detail is what makes this more than just "a bunch of dolls in cases."

Kids who are Barbie fans will be in heaven, obviously. But even kids (and adults) who aren't particularly into dolls tend to find the scale and artistry impressive. It's a unique experience that doesn't exist in most cities.

The exhibit is self-paced, so you can spend 30 minutes or 2 hours depending on your family's interest level. The space is air-conditioned and stroller-accessible. Restrooms are available in the shopping complex.

The location in Les Cours Mont-Royal means you're in the heart of downtown Montreal. Restaurants, shops, and the metro are all within steps. It's an easy add-on to a downtown day without requiring a separate trip.

The gift shop at the exit sells Barbie merchandise, so prepare accordingly if you have a kid who'll want to take a souvenir home.
