The Reptile Zoo

The Reptile Zoo is an indoor animal attraction inside the Prehistoric Pets operation in Fountain Valley, Orange County. Its collection includes more than 100 exotic species of reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids from around the world. Families can walk past hundreds of displays featuring snakes, lizards, frogs, tortoises, and other animals.

Some residents were rescued, some were born at the zoo, and others belong to private collections.

Children do more than look through exhibit windows when scheduled activities are available. The zoo says its interactive presentations may let adventurous guests hold or meet animals such as a ball python, bearded dragon, Sulcata tortoise, or leopard gecko. Families may also find opportunities to feed fish and turtles in the 2,000-gallon indoor pond or give fruit and vegetables to the zoo's large tortoises.

Availability can change, so do not promise a particular animal or interaction before confirming it that day. Private feeding and animal experiences cost much more than basic admission and require separate booking.

The strongest age range is about 4-12. Young children often enjoy the close views and unusual animals, while older children can learn about species, habitats, rescue stories, and animal care. Reptile-loving teens may also find plenty to study.

The zoo recommends allowing about two hours. Because the exhibits are indoors and the facility is wheelchair accessible, this is a useful choice for hot, rainy, or cool weather. The official site does not confirm stroller rules, nursing facilities, parking details, or food service, so families needing those amenities should call first.

Current general admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 3 to 12. The page also says guests 3 and younger are free, which creates an overlap for age 3; confirm that child's price before arrival. Two adults and two children ages 4 to 12 would pay $50 before optional encounters or feedings. The connected Prehistoric Pets retail area remains free, but it is separate from the paid zoo.

The zoo is open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM every day. Photography and video are welcomed. Arriving near opening gives families the full day to adjust around presentations, animal interests, and younger children's energy.
