de Havilland Aircraft Museum

The de Havilland Aircraft Museum is in London Colney, Hertfordshire, rather than central London. Families come to see the history of de Havilland aircraft across three hangars and an outdoor display area. The collection includes three Mosquito aircraft and the Comet 1a, an early jet airliner.

Full-size planes, visible restoration work, engines, and aviation objects make the museum most rewarding for children who like machines, engineering, military history, or the idea of sitting inside an aircraft.

The main display buildings have wheelchair access, but the museum says open aircraft can only be entered by stairs. That can limit the experience for visitors with reduced mobility and for adults managing very young children. A weather-dependent outdoor play area gives toddlers and younger school-age children a movement break.

During the current Summer Fun program, running through August 31, 2026, families can also look for peg-plane or butterfly crafts, a quiz with a lucky-dip prize, and indoor and outdoor games. Check the event page before visiting because seasonal activities can end or change.

Standard admission without Gift Aid is £12 for adults, £10. 90 for concessions, £6. 50 for children, and £31.

50 for a Family ticket. Gift Aid prices are higher and include a donation. The official page does not explain how many adults and children the Family ticket covers, so confirm the terms for your group.

Children are defined as ages 5 to 16 on the Gift Aid price list. Carers accompanying disabled visitors enter free.

The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Summer closing is 5 p.m., with last entry at 4 p.m. Winter closing is 4 p.m., with last entry at 3 p.m. Monday is normally closed except on Bank Holidays. Parking is free. Public transport requires more planning: the museum says bus 84 stops outside the driveway, followed by a walk of about 400 metres.

Allow two to three hours, including a cafe break and outdoor play. The Comet Café sells sandwiches, hot snacks, and drinks but closes 30 minutes before the museum. Rain does not ruin the main hangar experience, although it can reduce outdoor play and aircraft viewing. Stroller and baby-care policies are not published, so ask the museum directly if those facilities are important.
