Jardim da Estrela Playground

Jardim da Estrela is widely regarded as one of Lisbon's most beautiful public gardens, and the playground inside it makes it a top destination for families visiting the city. The garden dates to the 19th century and features enormous ancient trees, a central pond with ducks, a bandstand, and resident peacocks that roam freely through the grounds. The playground is well-maintained with climbing structures, swings, and areas for younger children — all set within the gorgeous tree-lined garden rather than a paved urban square.

For parents, the combination of a proper playground, shaded seating, a kiosk cafe, and stunning garden surroundings makes this one of the most pleasant family stops in all of Lisbon. Children typically run directly to the playground equipment, then discover the peacocks, then beg to feed the ducks — which can easily add another hour to any planned visit. The neighborhood around the garden (Estrela and Campo de Ourique) is one of Lisbon's most liveable residential areas and has excellent cafes and bakeries for before or after the visit.
