DISCOVERY Children's Museum

DISCOVERY Children’s Museum is built for active play, not quiet display cases. Its three floors contain 26,000 square feet of play space and nine galleries designed for children from birth through age 12. Most families will need at least half a day because the activities range from climbing and pretend play to building, art and science experiments.

The Summit is the largest physical challenge. This 70-foot structure rises through all three floors and has 12 levels. Children who prefer pretend play can board the pirate ship and visit the castle in Fantasy Festival, then take on jobs inside Eco City.

Patents Pending and the DISCOVERY Lab focus on making, testing and problem-solving. Water World teaches water science and conservation through hands-on activities, while Toddler Town gives the youngest visitors a desert-themed area made for their size.

The building is indoors, air-conditioned and a strong choice for extreme heat, rain or wind. It is also set up well for families with babies. A Nursing Nook in Toddler Town has seating and bottle warmers, and family restrooms are available in several parts of the museum.

Strollers are allowed, with designated stroller parking next to Toddler Town. Elevators reach every floor, and the museum also has ramps or lifts in several multi-level exhibits.

Admission currently costs $15 per person age 1 and older for Nevada residents with valid ID and $20 for non-local visitors. Eligible Museums for All visitors pay $5 per person for up to four tickets. Reservations are not required.

Parking is free, but there is one easy-to-miss step: enter the garage at 388 W. Robin Leach Lane, carry the parking ticket into the museum and scan it at Visitor Services before leaving. The garage has a seven-foot vehicle limit.

Plan 2.5 to 4 hours and arrive near opening if possible. Snacks, drinks and fresh food selections are sold in the DISCOVERY Store. Families may bring their own individual food, but eating is limited to designated break areas. A refillable bottle, snacks and a spare outfit for younger children can make the visit easier.
