About
Waterfall Park in Independence sits near the Bass Pro Shops complex on the east side of the Kansas City metro. It's a free city park with a genuine cascading waterfall as its centerpiece — not some rinky-dink fountain, but a multi-tier waterfall built into a rocky hillside.
Kids are drawn to the waterfall immediately. They'll climb the rocks, get close to the water, and inevitably get wet. Bring towels and a change of clothes.
The playground has slides, climbing structures, and swings in good condition for ages 2-10. Wide paved walking trails throughout. Picnic pavilions, first come, first served.
The location next to Bass Pro Shops is a nice bonus — free to browse their indoor aquariums and wildlife displays.
No food vendors, so bring your own. Several chain restaurants a short drive away. Restrooms available on-site.
For KC-area families, Waterfall Park is a solid free option that combines outdoor play with a unique natural feature.
