Lone Star Flight Museum

Lone Star Flight Museum gives families an indoor, close-up look at aviation history, flight science, and space exploration beside Ellington Airport. The aircraft collection is the visual draw, but the museum offers much more than rows of planes. Its Flight Academy contains 27 hands-on exhibits across design, engineering, flight science, briefing, and ground training.

Children can explore three replica cockpits, including two P-51 Mustangs, and use two hang-glider action simulators. The academy's science content was reviewed by middle-school teachers and pilots.

Younger siblings have a dedicated stop. Boeing Toddler Terminal is designed for ages 1 through 4 and includes soft-play structures, simple STEM stations, and imaginative aviation play. It is included with general admission.

Older children can visit the Space Gallery to see NASA training hardware, a shuttle crew-compartment trainer, an airlock system, a rover, astronaut equipment, and touchscreen tours of the shuttle's interior.

Public flight simulators add excitement but need planning. Children age 4 and younger may only copilot while seated with an adult and cannot operate the yoke. Ages 5 through 11 must sit with an adult to pilot.

Public simulator hours change by season, and the museum warns that reservations or paid programs can close the bay without notice. Check the live simulator page before promising this activity.

General admission is $18 for adults, $15 for youth ages 12 through 17, and $12 for children ages 5 through 11. Children age 4 and younger enter free. A two-adult family with two children ages 5 through 11 would pay $60. Parking is free and directly on site, which reduces arrival friction.

Allow about 2 to 3 hours as a family planning estimate. Aircraft displays can vary from one visit to another. The museum provides access for visitors with disabilities, and wheelchairs are available on request while supplies last.
