Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum

Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum puts families inside the historic Ford Island hangars connected to the December 7, 1941 attack. General admission covers more than 50 aircraft and the exhibits in Hangars 37 and 79 and the Operations Building. A free audio tour is offered in six languages.

Admission also includes an open cockpit experience in an F-5 Freedom Fighter and access to a rooftop terrace with plaques that help families understand the layout of the battlefield.

The strongest age fit is about 6 through the teen years. Large aircraft give younger children an immediate point of interest, while older children can follow the stories of wartime pilots, technology and restoration. Some material deals with war, loss and sacrifice, so caregivers may need to explain it in age-appropriate terms.

Toddlers can attend, but the official site does not publish stroller, nursing-room or changing-table information. Confirm those details directly if they are essential.

The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Current admission is $29.99 for adults and $17.99 for children ages 4 to 12. Children age 3 and younger are free. Flight simulators, guided hangar tours and Top of the Tower experiences cost extra and may be sold first come, first served.

Getting there is the main source of friction. Ford Island is an active military base. Visitors without base access must park at Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, pay the current $7 daily parking charge and use the complimentary shuttle.

Shuttles leave about every 15 minutes from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The last return shuttle leaves the museum at 5:00 PM. Ride-share drivers must also drop general visitors at the visitor center, not at the museum.

Plan two to three hours inside, plus shuttle and parking time. Most core exhibits are under cover in large hangars, so the museum can work in rain, although the terrace and transfers expose families to the weather. Hangar Café provides an on-site meal break from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the grill closing at 3:00 PM.
