Air Force Armament Museum

The Air Force Armament Museum gives families a close view of military aircraft and the weapons technology carried by them. The outdoor airpark includes numerous aircraft from the World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, and Gulf War eras. The SR-71 Blackbird is a major centerpiece.

Inside, families find four aircraft along with bombs, missiles, rockets, historical displays, and interactive mixed-media exhibits. Parents should know that the subject matter includes warfare and weapons, even when children are mainly excited by the planes.

The museum is outside the Eglin Air Force Base installation and is accessible to the public. Families do not need to enter the military base. Admission and general parking are free, although the supporting foundation welcomes donations.

Most visitors take a self-guided tour. Official group tours for five or more people last about one to one and a half hours and require advance contact. A self-guided family that also walks the airpark should plan roughly one and a half to two and a half hours.

Indoor exhibits make this a useful rainy-day option, but rain, heat, or storms can limit the outdoor aircraft section. The indoor museum operates from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, while the airpark is open from sunup to sundown. Starting at 9:00 AM gives families time to see the interior before choosing a comfortable weather window outside.

The interior closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas and has reduced hours around some December dates, so holiday visitors should confirm the schedule.

Food and drink are not allowed inside, except water in clear containers. Several picnic tables are available in the airpark, and the gift shop sells bottled water and ice cream. There is no published meal service, children's menu, changing-table information, nursing space, or stroller policy.

Accessible restrooms are located just behind the entrance lobby, and a limited number of wheelchairs can be borrowed from the front desk.

Children must remain supervised, and climbing on exhibits is prohibited. Families hoping to enter an aircraft should check the calendar. The AC-130 Gunship is normally opened for interior tours on the third Friday of each month, but cancellations occur. The official site specifically notes that the August 21, 2026 interior tour will not operate.
