Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum

Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum fills a 100,000-square-foot hangar on the former Lowry Air Force Base. Families can walk beside more than 60 aircraft, explore space artifacts, and see how flight changed over time. The collection includes large military planes, helicopters, uniforms, and hands-on exhibits that give kids plenty to study up close.

The museum works especially well for kids who love machines, history, or space. Flight simulators and virtual reality add an active break from reading exhibit signs. The MaxFlight simulator costs extra and uses timed sessions, so stop at the simulator desk near the start of the visit.

Most historic aircraft cannot be entered during a normal visit, but special Cockpit Demo Days offer a closer look.

Plan on 1.5 to 3 hours. The entire main museum is indoors, which makes it a dependable choice for snow, rain, or a very hot afternoon. Barrier-free entry, accessible restrooms, and a nursing area help families with younger children. Strollers work well on the open hangar floor. Free parking is available beside the museum, though event days can fill the lots.

Regular admission for two adults and two youths is about $65.80, and children 3 and under enter free. Families may save through ASTC reciprocity, SCFD free days, Denver CityPASS, SNAP admission, or the Lowry resident discount. Hours can change for private events, so check the official calendar before driving over.

Advance tickets are useful on weekends, but walk-ins are normally accepted when space allows.
