Downtown Aquarium

Downtown Aquarium in Denver combines a public aquarium, restaurant and small group of paid amusements at one Water Street complex. The aquarium says it has more than one million gallons of exhibits and over 500 animal species. Families follow themed areas based on North America, deserts, rainforests, coral lagoons, beaches, a sunken temple and a shipwreck.

Stingray Reef is the clearest hands-on stop, where visitors can touch and feed live stingrays. Younger children may also ask for the Aquatic Carousel or Aquarium Express train, while older children may prefer one of the 15-minute 4-D films.

Plan about two to three hours for the main exhibit. Add another hour or more if the family eats in the Aquarium Restaurant, buys ride tickets or spends time at Stingray Reef. Exhibit-only admission currently costs $29.99 for adults ages 12 to 64 and $23.99 for children ages 3 to 11.

Children 2 and younger are free. For two adults and two children, admission is $107.96. Add the posted $8 self-parking charge for a $115.96 starting total before tax.

The 4-D theater, carousel, train, face painting and stingray food are not all included with the basic ticket.

Most aquarium viewing is indoors, making this a useful rain, snow or heat option. The train and some amusement areas are outside, and rides may close during poor weather without rain checks. The venue permits strollers and rents them at the ticket box office.

Wheelchair access is provided at the attractions. The official site does not currently identify a nursing room or changing-table location, so families who need those facilities should call before visiting.

The parking lot is directly across from the building and accepts cash and cards. Drivers coming from I-25 use the 23rd Avenue exit. No standard entry wait is posted, but buying the correct ticket package before reaching the booth reduces decision time. Check the official calendar too. The operator schedules mermaid shows, quieter mornings and family promotions, but times and offers change.

The Aquarium Restaurant opens at 11:00 AM and can turn the outing into a longer meal experience. Its centerpiece tank holds more than 100 tropical fish species. A restaurant reservation is separate from aquarium admission.
