The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza tells the story of President John F. Kennedy's assassination and legacy inside the former Texas School Book Depository. Its main exhibition, John F. Kennedy and the Memory of a Nation, occupies the sixth floor. Special exhibitions and programs may use the seventh floor. This is a serious history museum rather than a hands-on children's attraction.

The best fit is generally ages 10 and older. Tweens and teens can follow the political timeline, study the evidence and historical setting, and discuss how news coverage and public memory developed after the assassination. Some younger children may manage the visit, but the subject can be difficult and the self-guided format requires sustained attention.

The museum offers free admission for ages zero through five, but that ticket policy does not mean the exhibition was designed for preschoolers.

The museum says the core exhibition takes about 90 minutes. A temporary seventh-floor exhibition can add time. Families may also explore Dealey Plaza outside, using the museum's interactive guide, but the museum warns that unrelated vendors working in the plaza are not museum employees.

All admission uses timed entry. Buying ahead is the smoothest option because tickets purchased at the Visitors Center are assigned the next available time. Online tickets cost $24 for adults and $20 for ages 6 through 18, plus a $1 fee per ticket. Onsite prices are $27 and $23. Children five and younger are free.

The indoor exhibition works well during rain or extreme heat, while the plaza portion depends on weather. Paid parking is next to the museum, but fees vary by lot. West End Station is three blocks away and Union Station is five blocks away.

The museum confirms wheelchair access, accessible restrooms, and sensory bags, but it does not publish stroller, nursing, or diaper-changing information. Call ahead if those facilities are essential. Food and drinks are not allowed in the galleries, though the museum provides an official map of nearby dining choices.
