About

The Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum is a serious indoor history museum for older children and teens. Its official guidance recommends that visitors be at least 12 because the permanent exhibition presents sensitive and complex material. Families with younger children should not treat this as a general all-ages museum.

A current special exhibition may be suitable for younger visitors, but parents should review that exhibition's page before buying tickets.

General admission includes the Permanent Exhibition, the Special Exhibition Gallery, the Dimensions in Testimony Theater, and the Cinemark Theater film Voices of Courage. Dimensions in Testimony uses recorded interactive testimony, with times and limited space managed through Guest Services. The museum also publishes family learning tools, including graphic novels connected to its Ten Stages of Genocide gallery.

Plan 2 to 3 hours for the complete experience. This is the museum's own visit-length recommendation, not a KidPaths estimate. Weekday mornings can be busy with student groups, so the museum recommends visiting after 1:00 PM on weekdays or coming during the weekend. The entrance to the permanent exhibition closes at 4:00 PM even though the building remains open until 5:00 PM.

Arrival includes airport-style friction. All visitors pass through metal detectors, and belongings are scanned or searched. Bags cannot exceed 19 inches tall, 17 inches wide, and 8 inches deep. There is no bag, coat, or stroller storage. Strollers may enter much of the museum but are prohibited inside the theaters.

Adult admission is $19, and student admission is $12. A family with two adults and two student-age children would pay $62 before parking. The covered garage across the street at 301 N Houston charges $12 for up to 12 hours, with taxes and fees possible. DART's West End Station is one block away.

The museum is fully ADA compliant. Video elements include English and Spanish captioning, a free app provides English and Spanish audio tours, and visitors with sensory needs can use a Social Story through the KultureCity app. Outside food and drinks are prohibited.

Restaurants are available within walking distance in the historic West End, so plan a meal before or after the two-to-three-hour visit.

Plan Your Visit

Best Time to Visit

Visit after 1:00 PM on a weekday or during the weekend. The museum recommends these times because weekday mornings can have many student groups.

Wait Times

No entrance wait in minutes is published. Allow extra arrival time for metal detectors and the required bag screening.

Nearby Food

Outside food and drinks are not allowed. The museum says the surrounding historic West End has restaurants within walking distance, but it does not identify a children's menu inside the museum.

Why Kids Love It

Older children and teens can engage with survivor stories, historical objects, films, graphic-novel learning resources, interactive testimony, and questions about choices, rights, and responsibility.

Pro Tips from Parents

  • Follow the museum's age guidance. The permanent exhibition is recommended for visitors age 12 and older.
  • Go after 1:00 PM on a weekday or on a weekend to avoid the heaviest student-group period.
  • Bring only a small bag. Every visitor passes through security, and the museum has no bag, coat, or stroller storage.
  • Ask Guest Services for Dimensions in Testimony times when you arrive. Seating is limited and reservations are handled at the desk.

What to Bring

  • A small bag no larger than 19 by 17 by 8 inches
  • A phone and earbuds for the English or Spanish audio-tour app
  • Identification needed for any admission discount
  • A light layer for indoor theaters and galleries
