About
Crayola Experience Charlotte is a 60,000-square-foot multi-level art and play center inside Concord Mills mall in Concord, about 20 minutes northeast of Charlotte. It's one of the most content-rich dedicated children's activity venues in the region.
The 26 interactive experiences span multiple floors and include: naming and wrapping your own crayon (kids choose a color, give it a name, and receive a personalized crayon); a multi-story play structure with slides and climbing; melted crayon drip art stations where kids use heat guns to drip crayon wax into original designs; digital coloring where kids color a page and see it come to life animated on-screen; a modeling compound studio; a large-scale color mixing activity; and numerous other craft-based stations.
The experience level is genuinely hands-on — this is not an exhibit to walk through but an activity center where kids make things. At the end of the visit, children leave with a collection of art projects they created themselves, which gives the experience a tangible outcome that passive entertainment doesn't provide.
For ages 2-5, the play structure and simpler craft stations are the sweet spot. Ages 5-8 engage fully with the named crayon experience, melted wax art, and the more structured creative stations. Above age 10, most kids find the venue too young.
Weekday mornings are the best time to visit — activity stations are less crowded and the experience is calmer. Weekend afternoons can feel rushed as stations fill up. Book online for modest savings over walk-in pricing.

Why Kids Love It
Crayola Experience is a multi-level hands-on art activity center built around the Crayola brand — 26 interactive experiences from naming your own crayon and watching it be made, to multi-story playgrounds, melted crayon art stations, and digital coloring activities. For kids ages 3-8 who love art and crafts, this is an exceptional 2-3 hour experience. The activities are genuinely hands-on and creative, not just passive entertainment.
Kids leave with art they made themselves.
Pro Tips from Parents
- The 'Name a Crayon' station where kids name a color and get a personalized label is a favorite — do this early in the visit before the station fills up.
- The multi-story soft play structure appeals to younger kids but can get overwhelming; save it for when energy starts to flag.
- Everything created in the art stations can be taken home — bring a tote bag or let the kids carry their creations.
What to Bring
- A tote bag for taking home completed art projects
- Art-friendly clothes (it's Crayola — things may get colored)
