Bay Park

Bay Park in East Rockaway is a 96-acre Nassau County recreation area along the waterfront of Hewlett Bay. For families, it functions as a multi-activity hub: there's a dedicated playground area for younger children, a skate park that draws middle schoolers and teens, tennis and basketball courts, a fishing dock that extends into the bay, open athletic fields, and even a nine-hole golf course for adults.

The waterfront setting is the park's biggest selling point. Families can walk the perimeter path with bay views, kids can fish off the dock (free with a valid NY fishing license for those 16 and up — under 16 is free), and the combination of water views and open space makes this feel like a genuine escape rather than a concrete playground.

The skate park is a real draw for tweens and teens — it has a decent range of ramps and rails that intermediate-level skaters will appreciate. Younger kids should stay on the playground side during busy periods since skate park traffic can move fast.

Restrooms are available in the park, and there are picnic tables and grills for families who want to make a half-day of it. The park is well-maintained by Nassau County parks staff. Hours run 8 AM to 8 PM daily, making it accessible for after-school visits during the week.

Parking is available on-site. During summer months, Nassau County charges a parking fee — check their website for current rates. The main pathways through the park are paved and stroller-accessible, though some lawn areas may be uneven.
